2012 Doublehanded District Championship

The SAlSA District Championships took place April 14/15 in the Charleston Harbor off of James Island Yacht Club. A complete rotation was accomplished of 30 races over the two days. Teams practiced on Friday afternoon with a 12 - 15 kt NE breeze. Saturday started with 11 - 14 kts out of the NW up until 12:15. The tide was flooding which produced a 2-3 kt east to west current. At 12:15 the wind shifted to SE at 8kts and built to 14kt with gusts to 16. Racing cont i nued until 5:39 with 18 races competed in all.

Racing resumed on Sunday with a SE wind and ebb tide until 10:33. Shifty winds built as the day progressed wi th peak gusts to 17kts. Race 11 A was abandoned dye to too shallow water around the weather mark. A full rotation of 30 races was completed by 1:45pm. Average race was 13min long.

Huge thank you to regatta chair Greg Walters, PRO Harvey McCormick, and Chief Judge Bob Bowden. Congratulations to Antilles, St Thomas Aquinas and Shorecrest Prep for finishing in 1st through 3rd place and advancing on to the National competition next month. Good Luck!
