2020-2021 SAISA Season Update

Attention SAISA Sailors!

The Leadership of SAISA met last evening and voted to finalize a regatta schedule to get the 2020/2021 SAISA HS Sailing season started.   Both the North and South Points Series will be comprised of 4 regattas of which the top 3 will count towards qualifying for the district championship and the Caribbean will use SP’s 1 as its SAISA Mallory Fleet Race qualifier.   The Regatta schedule will be as follows:

  1. NP’s 1- February 6th, Florida YC
  2. NP’s 2- February 27th, Charleston, James Island YC
  3. NP’s 3- March 6th, Sunbury, Georgia
  4. NP’s 4- April 10th, Lake Lanier, Georgia

Important Items (Please Read)

  • At this point in time, it does not look like there will be a Cressy National Championship.  ISSA is exploring regional options and will make a decision in the next month.  As a historically strong district for Laser sailing, the BOD felt it was important to still host a 2020-2021 SAISA Singlehanded Championship.
  • In order to keep numbers as low as possible for our points regattas this year, the BOD has voted to limit the number of people at each points regatta to 6 sailors and 2 support persons on site at the venue per team.   No exceptions will be made.
  • There will be no JV division this year at any SAISA points regattas.   These events will be strictly for varsity teams.   Teams, Clubs and Community Sailing Programs are encouraged to host additional “open” events to continue to promote and help with the growth of sailing in our district.
  • The SAISA BOD will be releasing a COVID Document in the next few days outlining the information listed above in more detail as well as additional protocols to help us ensure safe events during this difficult time.

Thanks,

Todd Fedyszyn
SAISA District Director
