First Annual Rochester Girls Only Regatta May 5, 2013
Rochester YC hosted the first annual Rochester Girls Only High School Regatta May 5th. Twenty girls from Buffalo and Rochester area high schools participated. Girls were permitted to sail with any high school sailor, allowing for mixed school teams.
Emma Mendenhall ’15 (Irondequoit) sailing with Anna Palmer ’13 (Mercy) dominated the event with nine firsts and one third for a total of 12 points. Anna Huebschmann and Nicole Gambacorta from Youngstown and Buffalo finished 2nd with 39 points closely followed by the Pittsford girls: Claire Lockard and Grace Himmler.
It was a glorious Spring day with just enough breeze filtering down the river to complete 10 races right off the dock with many parents and club members spectating. Rochester YC looks forward to making this an annual event the first Sunday in May.
