NJISA Sportsmanship Award

Maureen McGarry '17, Donovan Catholic

Coach Rachel Bennung writes:

This year the sportsmanship award goes to a sailor who is always there to help. Whether it be her teammate or another team she is the first to lend a helping hand. Her positive attitude is one to be admired. She has a true love and dedication for sailing, which shows every practice and every race day. She has a competitive spirit but shows respect and fairness every time she is on the water. She always comes ready to work hard and improve her skills. This year she decided to step up to be one of the team captains, where she showed great leadership skills. The best part about her commitment to sailing is she never forgets to help others along the way; whether she is lending someone sailing gear for practice, catching another team’s boat at the dock, staying a little later to make sure all the boats are put away correctly, or just being a good sailor and friend, this sailor is always there. For these reasons, the sportsmanship award this year goes to Maureen McGarry.
